A great photography tip you should keep in mind is to never compare yourself to someone else. If you're constantly comparing your work to someone else's, you're selling your own work short. You must learn to value and appreciate your own work, and not worry too much about everyone else.

In most portrait photos, the subject's eyes look directly into the camera. Have your subject express a variety of emotions to capture a unique photograph. You could also try to have the people in the picture look at something in the frame.

Make use of the instant feedback you get from a digital camera. The screen on your digital camera can show you the basics of how your photo came out the instant you snap the shot. Learn from your mistakes and take another shot, there's no need to wait for your prints anymore.
